Post-Operative Hemorrhage
Excessive bleeding following surgery, requiring immediate identification and stabilization.
Assessment Indicators
- Tachycardia and hypotension.
- Rapidly increasing drainage in surgical drains.
- Visible frank bleeding on dressing.
- Decreased hemoglobin and hematocrit.
Interventions
- Apply direct pressure if the wound site is accessible.
- Increase IV fluid rate as ordered to maintain perfusion.
- Notify surgeon immediately.
- Prepare for emergency return to surgery if indicated.
