Increased Intracranial Pressure (ICP)
Life-threatening complication involving elevated pressure within the cranium.
Bedside Positioning
- Maintain head of bed at 30 degrees.
- Keep the head in neutral, midline alignment to promote venous drainage.
- Avoid flexion of the hips or neck.
Nursing Precautions
- Avoid coughing, straining, or Valsalva maneuvers.
- Minimize stimulation and cluster nursing care.
- Monitor GCS and pupillary response every hour.
