Calculating and adjusting infusions like dopamine, norepinephrine, or dobutamine to reach hemodynamic goals.
Dosage Calculation
- Often ordered in mcg/kg/min.
- Use the formula: (Desired dose x Weight x 60 min) / Concentration (mcg/mL) = Flow Rate (mL/hr).
- Requires an infusion pump with current, accurate patient weight.
Clinical Monitoring
- Titrate only to the specific blood pressure or cardiac output goals.
- Assess IV site for extravasation; many are vesicants.
- Check for signs of end-organ perfusion improvement (urine output, mental status).
