BSA (Body Surface Area) Dosing
Calculating medication doses based on the patient's body surface area, commonly used in chemotherapy and critical care.
The Mosteller Formula
- BSA (m²) = square root of [(cm x kg) / 3600].
- Ensure height is in centimeters and weight is in kilograms.
- Often used for high-toxicity drugs where exact dosing is vital.
Safety Checks
- BSA calculation is highly sensitive to rounding errors; calculate carefully.
- Verify the calculation with an oncology pharmacist or specialized protocol.
- Review the patient’s most recent weight to ensure accuracy.
