Low-Residue Diet

A diet that limits fiber and other foods that add bulk to stool, commonly used for inflammatory bowel flare-ups.

Allowed Foods

  • White bread, white rice, and refined pasta.
  • Cooked vegetables without skins or seeds.
  • Lean meats, poultry, and fish (well-cooked).
  • Canned fruits without skins or seeds.

Foods to Avoid

  • Whole grains and high-fiber cereals.
  • Raw fruits and vegetables.
  • Nuts, seeds, and dried legumes.
  • Tough, fibrous meats.
