A state of nutritional deficiency caused by inadequate intake of proteins and calories.

Assessment Findings

  • Decreased serum albumin and prealbumin levels.
  • Muscle wasting and loss of subcutaneous fat.
  • Delayed wound healing and pressure injuries.
  • Increased susceptibility to infections.

Interventions

  • Provide frequent, high-protein, high-calorie small meals.
  • Consult dietitian for specialized supplements.
  • Encourage oral supplements between meals.
  • Monitor weight trends closely.
