Pathophysiology
Stroke (CVA)
A cerebrovascular accident occurs due to sudden interruption of blood supply to the brain, leading to localized ischemia or hemorrhage.
Assessment (FAST)
- Face: Uneven smile or facial droop
- Arms: One arm drifts downward
- Speech: Slurred or abnormal
- Time: Call emergency services immediately
Nursing Interventions
- Assess for dysphagia prior to oral intake
- Monitor neurological status using NIHSS
- Maintain head of bed at 30 degrees
- Prevent DVT via early mobilization or anticoagulants
