Cirrhosis

Cirrhosis is the end-stage of chronic liver disease characterized by extensive fibrosis and nodule formation.
Complications
- Portal hypertension leading to varices
- Ascites due to low serum albumin
- Hepatic encephalopathy from ammonia buildup
- Coagulopathy due to impaired clotting factor production
Management
- Administer lactulose for encephalopathy
- Measure abdominal girth daily
- Restrict sodium and protein intake
- Avoid hepatotoxic meds like acetaminophen
