Anorexia Nervosa
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by weight loss, distorted body image, and fear of gaining weight.
Physical Findings
- Hypotension, bradycardia, and hypothermia.
- Lanugo (fine body hair) and dry skin.
- Amenorrhea and electrolyte imbalances (e.g., hypokalemia).
- Cardiac arrhythmias due to starvation.
Nursing Interventions
- Monitor vital signs and daily weights.
- Supervise during and after meals to prevent purging.
- Focus on health and feelings rather than physical appearance.
- Monitor for Refeeding Syndrome during initial nutrition therapy.
