Rho(D) Immune Globulin (RhoGAM)
A medication given to Rh-negative mothers to prevent the development of antibodies against Rh-positive fetal blood cells.
Administration Timing
- At 28 weeks gestation for prophylaxis
- Within 72 hours after birth if the infant is Rh-positive
- After any invasive procedures like amniocentesis or trauma
Eligibility Criteria
- Mother must be Rh-negative
- Mother must not have been previously sensitized (negative antibody screen)
- Infant must be Rh-positive
Nursing Considerations
- It is a blood product; verify patient ID and orders
- Observe for allergic reaction
- Do not administer to an Rh-positive mother
