Sterile Field Maintenance
The maintenance of a sterile field is critical to preventing surgical site infections and procedure-related sepsis.
Sterile Technique Rules
- A sterile field is contaminated if touched by non-sterile objects.
- Never turn your back on a sterile field.
- Keep sterile items above waist level.
- Outer 1-inch border of a sterile drape is considered contaminated.
