Clostridioides difficile (C. diff)
A spore-forming, anaerobic bacterium that causes severe diarrhea and colitis, typically following antibiotic disruption of normal gut flora.
Nursing Interventions
- Implement contact precautions immediately.
- Use soap and water for hand hygiene (alcohol-based rubs do not kill spores).
- Bleach-based disinfectants required for environmental cleaning.
- Monitor for dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.
