Standard precautions are the minimum infection prevention practices that apply to all patient care, regardless of suspected or confirmed infection status.
Core Practices
- Hand hygiene before and after patient contact.
- Use of gloves when touching blood or bodily fluids.
- Gowns and face protection during procedures likely to generate splashes.
- Safe injection practices and respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette.
