Acute Pancreatitis
Inflammatory condition of the pancreas caused by the premature activation of pancreatic enzymes, leading to autodigestion.
Clinical Signs
- Severe epigastric pain radiating to the back
- Cullen sign (periumbilical bruising)
- Turner sign (flank ecchymosis)
- Nausea and persistent vomiting
Nursing Interventions
- Maintain NPO status to rest the pancreas
- Administer IV fluids for hydration
- Provide analgesics for severe pain management
- Assess for respiratory complications such as pleural effusion or ARDS
