Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

Progressive, irreversible destruction of nephrons leading to decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
Lab Indicators
- Elevated BUN and Serum Creatinine
- Hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, and hypocalcemia
- Metabolic acidosis
- Anemia due to reduced erythropoietin production
Patient Care
- Monitor fluid balance; track strict Intake and Output
- Administer phosphate binders with meals
- Provide low-protein, low-potassium, and low-sodium diet
- Educate on signs of uremia: pruritus, confusion, metallic taste
