Anaphylactic Reaction
A severe, systemic allergic reaction requiring immediate recognition and intervention to prevent respiratory failure and cardiovascular collapse.
Clinical Signs
- Urticaria and angioedema
- Wheezing and stridor
- Sudden hypotension
- Nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramping
Immediate Actions
- Administer Epinephrine IM in the mid-outer thigh
- Establish patent airway and provide high-flow oxygen
- Discontinue the trigger (medication/transfusion)
Secondary Management
- Administer IV corticosteroids and antihistamines
- Initiate IV fluid bolus for hypotension
- Continuous monitoring of airway patency
