Characterized by excessive, uncontrollable worry about various events or activities for at least six months.

Physical Symptoms

  • Restlessness or feeling on edge
  • Easy fatiguability
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Muscle tension
  • Sleep disturbances

Nursing Interventions

  • Create a calm, quiet environment
  • Encourage expression of feelings
  • Teach stress management and grounding techniques
  • Promote regular exercise for anxiety reduction

Therapeutic Approach

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focus
  • Identify and challenge distorted thinking patterns
  • Monitor for medication non-compliance with benzodiazepines or SSRIs
