Lipid Profile

A blood test that measures cholesterol and triglyceride levels to assess cardiovascular risk.

Reference Targets

  • Total Cholesterol: < 200 mg/dL
  • LDL (Bad): < 100 mg/dL
  • HDL (Good): > 60 mg/dL
  • Triglycerides: < 150 mg/dL

Management

  • Promote low-fat, high-fiber diet
  • Monitor for muscle pain if patient is on statin therapy
  • Identify risk factors like smoking, obesity, and sedentary lifestyle
  • Encourage fasting for 8-12 hours prior to draw for accuracy
