Arterial Blood Gases (ABG)
A test used to assess gas exchange and acid-base balance in arterial blood.
Normal Parameters
- pH: 7.35–7.45
- PaCO2: 35–45 mmHg
- HCO3: 22–26 mEq/L
- PaO2: 80–100 mmHg
Interpretation Strategy
- pH < 7.35 is acidosis, > 7.45 is alkalosis
- PaCO2 represents the respiratory component
- HCO3 represents the metabolic component
- Apply ROME: Respiratory Opposite, Metabolic Equal
