Major Depressive Disorder
MDD is a mood disorder causing a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.
Key Symptoms
- Depressed mood most of the day for at least two weeks.
- Anhedonia (lack of interest in activities).
- Significant weight change or appetite disturbance.
- Psychomotor retardation or agitation.
Nursing Interventions
- Perform a comprehensive suicide risk assessment.
- Simplify routines to prevent overwhelming the client.
- Encourage small, achievable goals to build self-esteem.
- Monitor for improved energy levels, which may increase suicide risk post-treatment.
