Heart Failure
A clinical syndrome where the heart is unable to pump sufficient blood to meet the metabolic demands of the body.
Left vs Right Sided
- Left: Pulmonary congestion, orthopnea, nocturnal dyspnea
- Right: Peripheral edema, hepatomegaly, jugular venous distention
Nursing Care
- Weigh daily to assess fluid retention
- Monitor serum potassium if on diuretics
- Advise low-sodium diet
- Assess activity tolerance
Medications
- ACE Inhibitors for afterload reduction
- Beta-blockers for myocardial protection
- Diuretics for volume control
