Post-Operative Care
The post-operative phase focuses on preventing complications and returning to baseline stability.
Assessment Priorities
- Airway patency and breathing pattern.
- Level of consciousness and orientation.
- Surgical site drainage and dressing integrity.
- Peripheral pulses and capillary refill.
Complication Prevention
- Use incentive spirometry to prevent atelectasis.
- Encourage early ambulation to prevent DVT.
- Manage pain effectively to promote deep breathing.
- Monitor bowel sounds for return of peristalsis.
