Levels of Prevention
Framework for health interventions classified by the timing and goal of the care provided.
Primary Prevention
- Focuses on health promotion and disease prevention before occurrence.
- Examples: Immunizations, health education, physical activity programs.
Secondary Prevention
- Focuses on early detection and prompt intervention to limit disability.
- Examples: Screenings, mammograms, Papanicolaou smears, blood pressure checks.
Tertiary Prevention
- Focuses on restoration, rehabilitation, and management of chronic conditions.
- Examples: Physical therapy, support groups, medication management for chronic illness.
