Epidemiology Core Concepts
Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states or events in specified populations.
Key Metrics
- Incidence: New cases occurring in a population during a specific time period.
- Prevalence: Total number of existing cases in a population at a specific time.
- Attack Rate: Proportion of persons exposed to an agent who develop the disease.
Epidemiological Triangle
- Agent: The causative factor (biological, chemical, physical, nutritional).
- Host: The susceptible human or animal harboring the agent.
- Environment: External factors that allow the agent to reach the host.
