Sepsis Protocol
Early identification and management of the systemic inflammatory response to infection to prevent septic shock.
Assessment Findings
- Fever or hypothermia
- Tachypnea and tachycardia
- Hypotension (Systolic <90 mmHg)
- Elevated lactate levels
Nursing Interventions
- Obtain blood cultures BEFORE starting antibiotics
- Administer broad-spectrum IV antibiotics
- Initiate fluid resuscitation with 30mL/kg crystalloid
Monitoring
- Hourly urine output monitoring
- Repeat serum lactate checks
- Serial blood pressure measurements
