Fluid Volume Excess (Hypervolemia)
An isotonic expansion of the extracellular fluid compartment due to an abnormal retention of water and sodium.
Clinical Manifestations
- Distended neck veins (JVD)
- Bounding pulse and hypertension
- Dyspnea and crackles on auscultation
- Peripheral edema and rapid weight gain
Nursing Management
- Strict intake and output monitoring
- Daily weight measurement at the same time
- Elevate extremities to reduce edema
- Administer diuretics as prescribed
- Restrict sodium and fluid intake
