Epidemiologic Triad
The traditional model used to explain the infectious disease process involving three interactive components.
Core Components
- Agent: The biological, chemical, or physical cause of disease (e.g., bacteria, virus).
- Host: The human or animal harboring the disease.
- Environment: External factors that facilitate transmission (e.g., climate, sanitation).
Clinical Application
- Breaking the chain of infection interrupts the cycle.
- Vector control targets the environmental aspect.
- Vaccination strategies focus on increasing host resistance.
