Nursing Ethics

Beneficence and Non-maleficence

Beneficence and Non-maleficence

These twin pillars represent the duty to act in the patient's best interest (beneficence) and the obligation to do no harm (non-maleficence).

Beneficence in Practice

  • Prioritize patient well-being over provider convenience.
  • Provide compassionate care and pain management.
  • Act as a patient advocate in multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Support patient dignity and holistic healing.

Non-maleficence in Practice

  • Strict adherence to the Five Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Proper sterile technique to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
  • Early identification of potential medication errors.
  • Careful monitoring of patient status post-procedure to catch complications.
