Falls Prevention

Falls are a leading cause of morbidity and loss of independence in the elderly population.
Assessment Tools
- Use Morse Fall Scale to categorize risk level upon admission.
- Conduct medication reviews for dizziness or orthostatic hypotension.
- Assess gait and balance using the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test.
Interventions
- Keep call bell and essential items within reach.
- Utilize bed/chair alarms for high-risk patients.
- Ensure adequate lighting and remove environmental clutter.
- Encourage weight-bearing exercises to improve muscle strength.
